LIFT OFF! to Literacy Reading Program

Well, this is the first blog post being written during normal "business hours". All other posts have been penned in the wee hours of the morning, or way after bedtime once the house is semi-put back together. We're celebrating the small stuff at Up & Away Literacy and adjusting to the whole "work-from-home thing"🥳

Where it all began...

Erin and I have been teaching for a long time. We've dabbled in just about every elementary grade level, but we both ended up as reading specialists. We got through the rigors of Orton Gillingham certification, COVID classrooms, sharing a room, and then sharing our happy little hallway (RIP Bob Ross). Cue the music 🎵 God bless the broken road, that led me straight to you! 🎵

During our training we wanted to kick our former-selves multiple times because of the way we used to approach our reading instruction. A saying that was said WAY more than once was...

We made it our mission that we'd not only help our future students see that they CAN and ARE and WILL BE successful readers, but we wanted to help the teachers around us do the same for their entire classrooms of developing readers. We pushed into classrooms for whole group lessons, wrote plans, created resources, added as many kids to our rosters as humanly possible, tutored in the summer, provided parents with support and tried our darndest to make a difference.

An idea is born...

We started thinking... "What if we could help MORE kids, MORE teachers, and MORE parents?!" 🤯

And that's when the idea for the LIFT OFF! to Literacy Reading Program was born!

We've taken everything we've learned over the past 30 years combined and created an online reading program that is...

The (probably unrealistic, but totally fun to think about) dream...

Seeing a REAL hot air balloon with our business logo on it would be pretty up there! 🎈I think I'd enjoy it most with my feet firmly planted on the ground, but what a sight that would be!
