Hi, we're Erin & Kally!
Background: Erin and Kally are reading specialists with over 30 years of combined teaching experience. They have been working side by side since 2019. Both are Certified Academic Language Practitioners and Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionists fueled by their passion to teach kids to read!
The Real Us
We are both moms, wives, and teachers. Our favorite place to eat happens to be a gas station... Don't judge us until you've tasted the pizza and ice cream. We share many of the same hopes and dreams. We're passionate about improving student literacy and determined to empower parents and teachers with practical and easy-to-implement reading strategies. With the Science of Reading as our foundation, we've created something really special in Up & Away Literacy that we want the whole world to see!
Erin Morrison, CALP, SLD-I
Erin is a reading specialist with more than 18 years of experience. She has taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and now supports struggling readers in grades K-4. She is an Orton-Gillingham certified instructor (CALP) and a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (SLD-I).
Erin is married and has two children, Grady and Makenna. One of her greatest joys is watching her kids do what they love!
Erin's other love is helping students learn how to read. Her favorite quote about reading is, "Intensive instruction takes time, energy, resources, expertise and persistence, but every student deserves a chance at literacy." --Louisa Moats
Kally Ruffing, CALP, SLD-I
Kally is a reading specialist with 13 years of teaching experience. She has taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, and now supports struggling readers in grades K-4. She is an Orton-Gillingham certified instructor (CALP) and also a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (SLD-I).
Kally is married with 4 kids, 13 ducks and 1 dog who is trying his hardest to keep everyone in line. Life is loud and fun in this household.
As someone who struggled learning to read as a child, Kally knows firsthand the importance of a teacher who cares. Now an avid reader, Kally's goal is to make the same difference in the lives of as many kids as possible.
